A functional commission and subsidiary body of ECOSOC, based on the Rio Declaration, the Forest Principles, Chapter 11 of H-XF2785 - Global Action Plan for Environment and Development in the 21st Century (Agenda 21) and the outcome of U-XK0938 - Intergovernmental Panel on Forests (IPF) / Intergovernmental Forum on Forests (IFF) Processes and other key milestones of international forest policy.
Promote management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forest; strengthen long-term political commitment to this end.
