The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

July 1995, Geneva (Switzerland), as Inter-Agency Task Force on Forests (ITFF) by United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD). Present name adopted Apr 2001, following recommendations of United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Aims

Facilitate collaboration and communication between CPF and other partners; provide a platform for international and regional organizations, non-governmental organizations, indigenous peoples' organizations, private sector entities and other major groups to channel their support for the work of UNFF and to enhance cooperation.

Activities

Reports annually to United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF) on progress and plans of CPF and its member organizations, focusing on implementation of proposals for action of the 'Intergovernmental Panel on Forests' and 'Intergovernmental Forum on Forests'. CPF and member organizations: provide information and technical assistance to countries; facilitate regional and international initiatives; identify and mobilize financial resources; strengthen political support for sustainable forest management; prepare documentation for UNFF sessions; support intersessional activities of UNFF; second staff to the UNFF Secretariat. Joint initiatives: 'CPF Sourcebook on Funding Sustainable Forest Management'; 'CPF Task Force on Streamlining Forest-Related Reporting'; initiative on forest-related definitions.
