1978

History

1978, Ouagadougou, as a specialized financial institution of H-XD3424 - Communauté économique de l'Afrique de l'Ouest (CEAO), by virtue of Article 3 of Protocol 'M' of the CEAO Treaty. First programme of subsidies approved Oct 1980. Also known by the French initials FOSIDEC/CEAO. Previously referred to in English as Solidarity and Assistance Fund for the Development of the West African Economic Community. Ceased to exist.

Aims

Promote economic and social development of Member States and help achieve a balanced regional development of the Community.

Structure

Decision-making bodies: Conference of Heads of State; Council of Ministers; Board of Directors (meets twice a year), including Secretary-General of the Community and one civil servant from each member state. Management Committee, comprising Secretary-General and 4 representatives of member states selected on a rotational basis from the Board; Managing Director. Specialist bureaux: 'Community Bureau for Agriculture Development' and 'Community Bureau for Industrial Development'.
