Founded 13 Sep 1961, Montréal QC (Canada), as Association des universités partiellement ou entièrement de langue française (AUPELF). 1990, changes to Agence francophone pour l'enseignement supérieur et la recherche (AUPELF-UREF), on modification of the statutes of U-XC0156 - Association des universités partiellement ou entièrement de langue française (AUPELF), as an umbrella organization to unite formally the activities of AUPELF and H-XF0647 - Université des réseaux d'expression française (UREF), created Dec 1987, Marrakech (Morocco), the two having worked together since the foundation of UREF. Current title adopted by General Assembly, Apr 1998, Beyrouth (Lebanon). Current Statutes adopted by General Assembly, May 2001, Québec QC (Canada).
