History
Established by Resolution 725/75 of E-XE3068 - Council of the European Union. Reorganized: Jan 1985; Dec 1988.
Specific provisions laid down in Regulation (EC) No 1080/2006 of F-XF0667 - European Parliament (EP) and of the Council of 5 Jul 2006 on ERDF and repealing Regulation (EC) 1783/1999.
Current project cycle: 2021-2027.
An integral part of H-XF0662 - European Communities (EC) and, following signature of T-XT9113 - Treaty on European Union (Maastricht Treaty), of F-XF2147 - European Union (EU).
Aims
Reduce structural disparities and help the least prosperous regions catch up with those that are more developed to improve the overall 'cohesion' of the EU; foster conditions necessary for increased growth and jobs, with priority financing aimed at research, innovation, environmental upgrading and risk prevention, renewable energies and energy efficiency and improving accessibility to transport and telecommunications services.
