'Declaration of Saint Malo' adopted Oct 1983.
Aims
Promote better cooperation between peripheral regions and European institutions and organizations and influence European policy-making in areas of interest to the region; promote the concept of a more balanced and poly-centric development in which creation of competitive territories in maritime areas on the basis of large macro-areas contributes to a better balance and overall development of the European region as a whole; protect and improve regional potentials linked with sea and coast; put forward proposals in the context of negotiations on European Structural Funds; encourage inter-regional and transnational networking, particularly through cooperation programmes.
