The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1976, as Socially Appropriate Technology International Information Services. Since 1986, SATIS is the official name, also referred to as Global Union for Technologies for Environment and Sustainable Development. Since 1991 headquarters located in Dakar (Senegal). A Swiss association, operated through a national foundation. No longer operational, although officially still exists in 1997.

Aims

As a global union for technologies for sustainable development, assist communicators, development workers and technologists to apply to development their skills in science, technology and management.

Activities

Development of SATIS information system, classification and thesaurus; through SATIS network, promotes new trends in 'emerging technologies', in particular through 'Who's Appropriate' programme; assists development organizations in acquiring skills by producing and distributing publications; contracts/transactions (about 3,300 annually). Matches suppliers and potential users of proven, sustainable technologies through SATIS 'Replication Project' and 'Technology Bank Project'. SATIS Tokens provide case-of-payment for development workers in purchasing information.
