History
Aug 1977, Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea), by F-XE5377 - Pacific Islands Forum. Became operational Jan 1979, on signature of a convention reflecting common concern on matters of conservation and of optimum use and sovereign rights over living marine resources. Also referred to as South Pacific Forum Fisheries Agency and as Forum Fisheries Agency.
Aims
Promote and coordinate cooperation and mutual assistance among members of the South Pacific Forum in the matter of fishery policies and fishing limits; secure the maximum benefits from the living marine resources of the region for its peoples, particularly of member countries.

FFA functions as a consultative and advisory body and takes its direction from the Forum Fisheries Committee (FFC), which meets once a year and is composed of representatives from all FFA member countries. FFC's decisions are subsequently reviewed by SPF.
