First Emmaus community set up Nov 1949, Paris (France), by Abbé Pierre (1912-2007) and the first world meeting of communities held 1969, Bern (Switzerland). At this meeting the 'Universal Manifesto of the Emmaus Movement' was adopted. Statutes adopted 1971, Montréal QC (Canada).
