History

18 May 1979, Luxembourg, when Statutes were adopted. Previously in English also referred to as European Action in Disability.

Aims

Represent the interests of the handicapped, especially in the following areas: (a) complete social and professional integration/reintegration of handicapped persons; (b) extension of preventive measures aimed also at avoiding the worsening of handicaps; (c) informing the public about the problems of the handicapped.

Activities

Exerts influence on political decisions concerning European legislation in the public health, professional and social fields. Demands special effective measures for the integration of handicapped people in society and employment. Provides information on the specific problems facing people with disabilities at European and national level and proposes appropriate solutions in close cooperation with the European Commission.
