Founded 17 Sep 1967, Montreux (Switzerland), to take over the work of former Commission on Applied Ecology of B-XB2698 - International Union of Biological Sciences (IUBS). Currently part of the IUBS Section of the Environment. Registered in accordance with German law, Osnabrück (Germany).
Promote development of the science of ecology and application of ecological principles to global needs, particularly through international cooperation and major meetings; collect, evaluate, and disseminate information about ecology; promote national, regional and international action in ecological research; train personnel; coordinate large-scale application of ecological principles; encourage public awareness of the economic and social importance of ecology.
