The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

Oct 1986, by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), which executes the programme. Also referred to as Aquaculture for Local Community Development Programme.

Aims

Enhance outputs from smallholder farming systems and economies through improved management of aquatic resources; develop, test and demonstrate socio-economically and technically feasible methods for rural small-scale aquaculture in small holder farming or fisheries communities in Southern Africa; develop training methods and training of government officers and others in application of these methods; generate larger scale development programmes applying these methods.

Organizes: socio-cultural, socio-economic, technical and environmental studies; pilot-scale surveys; pilot fish-farm projects; technical consultations. Current programme focuses on 4 target areas: methodologies for agricultural extension; utilization of small bodies of water; smallholder farming systems; information service.
