May 1951, Paris (France), as Interim Commission. Subsequently called Union internationale pour l'éducation sanitaire de la population. Name changed, Mar 1974, to International Union for Health Education (IUHE) -- Union internationale d'éducation pour la santé (UIES) -- Unión Internacional de Educación para la Salud. Present name adopted 1993. Definitive statutes adopted May 1953, Paris; revised: Jul 1962, Philadelphia PA (USA); Sep 1969, Buenos Aires (Argentina); 1973, Paris; 1982, Hobart (Australia); 1985, Dublin (Ireland); 1988 Houston TX (USA); 1998, Puerto Rico; 2007, Vancouver BC (Canada).

Aims

Promote global health and contribute to achievement of equity in health between and within countries; advocate activities to promote the health of populations worldwide; develop the knowledge base for health promotion and health education; improve and advance the quality and effectiveness of health promotion and health education practice and knowledge; contribute to development of countries' capacity to undertake health promotion and health education activity.
