History

by Resolutions 54/219 and 56/195 of the General Assembly of A-XA3375 - United Nations (UN), within the framework of E-XK2002 - United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), as a follow-up of programme U-XK0046 - International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR). No activities reported after 2005.

Function as the main forum within the United Nations for continued and concerted emphasis on natural disaster reduction.

Structure

Not an intergovernmental body but a committee of high-level members with an active interest in disaster reduction matters who collectively are called upon to devise strategies and methodologies for implementation of the ISDR programme. Task Force is chaired by UN Under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and comprises: representatives of up to 14 UN organizations and entities; representatives of up to 8 regional entities; 8 representatives of civil society and NGOs. Director of ISDR Secretariat is ex-officio Secretary. At their request, a number of UN member states and other relevant entities attend Task Force meetings as observers.
