Founded 30 Jan 1986, at the recommendation of H-XE4118 - Office of the United Nations Disaster Relief Coordinator (UNDRO) - currently E-XE3242 - United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), E-XE3382 - UNDP and B-XB3556 - World Meteorological Organization (WMO), as an outreach activity of F-XF4954 - Asian Institute of Technology (AIT).
Aims
Support the advancement of safer communities and sustainable development, through programmes and projects that reduce the impact of disasters upon countries and communities in Asia and the Pacific, by: developing and enhancing sustainable institutional disaster risk management capacities, frameworks and mechanisms, and supporting the development and implementation of government policies; facilitating the dissemination and exchange of disaster risk management expertise, experience and information; raising awareness and enhancing disaster risk management knowledge and skills; promoting regional cooperation.
