Current name adopted 1956. From 25 Apr 1960 until Dec 2000, acted as headquarters and was a research centre of H-XD3021 - Coordination and Cooperation Organization for the Control of the Major Endemic Diseases. Subsequently became public institution, directly linked to the Ministry of Health in Burkina Faso, 2001.
Combat major endemic diseases in Africa, with emphasis on: malaria; dracunculosis; trypanosomiasis; bilharzia; sexually transmitted diseases; AIDS and opportunistic diseases, including tuberculosis; vaccinology.
