The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

Founded 2002, Montpellier (France), based on the territorial cooperation experience gathered during the 1990s. Registered in accordance with Spanish law.

Aims

Defend the interests and needs of the western Mediterranean region and its citizens to European institutions; value and strengthen capacities and help internationalize actions and strategies of members in favour of common objectives.

Activities

Works at political and technical level through 4 thematic commissions. Social Cohesion - Artistic and cultural, material and immaterial Mediterranean heritage as a vector for common values. Fields include: equal opportunities; demographic changes and migrations; intercultural and intergenerational dialogue; health and welfare; active citizenship and the rights of citizens. Economic Cohesion - Promotes the region, including: competitiveness, innovation and sustainable economy; promotion and internationalization of small and medium-sized business. Territorial Cohesion - Issues include: multilevel governance; territorial planning; local development and infrastructures connecting the Arco Latino space; climate change and adaptation to its effects; research and use of renewable energies; protection of natural areas and biodiversity; agricultural policies. Establishes institutional relations and decentralized public cooperation actions between members and other local administrations from the Mediterranean basin; participates in Euro-Mediterranean forums; collaborates with several networks of local Euro-Mediterranean governments and European institutions.
