The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

Apr 1983, as the planning and executing organism of Latin American Chapter of IULA, the Latin American section of International Union of Local Authorities (IULA), which ceased to exist 2004.

Aims

Increase the motivation and strengthen the managerial, administrative and technical capacities of Latin American public officials and local governments, both elected and appointed; seek to enable them to perform their functions with greater efficiency and work in favour of the poorest groups of the cities.

Activities

Offers training programs (courses and seminars) in the fields of taxation, public services, municipal administration, local development projects, administrative carrier, associationism, local credit systems, instructor training, basic services for precarious settlements and cadastral systems. Contributes to the strengthening of the municipal movement. Maintains a municipalist network. Created a Documentation Centre. Undertakes applied research programs relative to current problems of Latin American and Caribbean municipalities, in particular executing Regional Training System for Local Urban Development Improvement in Latin America (SACDEL).
