Founded 1978, Macau, as Southeast Asia Rural Institute for Community Education. Registered formally in accordance with the law of the Philippines, Dec 1981; re-registered 1996. Previously also referred to as South East Asia Institute for Community Education and as Southeast Asia Regional Institute for Community Education. Subsequently changed title to Southeast Asia Regional Institute for Community Empowerment.
Empower farming communities through agricultural research and development by strengthening their control over agricultural resources, particularly plant genetic resources; work towards policy and structural reforms to ensure agricultural biodiversity.
