History

31 Jan 1976, San José (Costa Rica), as Latin American Federation of Press Workers -- Fédération latinoaméricaine des travailleurs de la presse -- Federación Latinoamericana de Trabajadores de la Prensa (FELATRAP), during 1st Latin American Congress of Press Workers. A regional organization of B-XC1887 - World Organization of Workers (WOW). 2004, name changed to Federación Latinoamericana de Trabajadores de la Comunicación Social (FELATRACS).

Aims

Promote the organization of workers in the press sector in all countries of Latin America, providing material and technical assistance as necessary, and organizing necessary services at the Latin American level, cooperating in national-level provision of such services; promote unity at the national level among all organizations in the sector to render their activities more effective; study, promote, defend and represent the interests of press workers with government bodies in Latin America and world-wide, in line with workers' rights and interests; defend and promote the right for free and democratic organization of all press workers; monitor respect for freedom of information and expression.
