The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1991, within the framework of IUGS Commission on Geoscience for Environmental Management (IUGS-GEM), and coming under the joint umbrella of COGEOENVIRONMENT, International Association of Engineering Geology and the Environment (IAEG) and International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH). Terminated 2008.

Aims

Share and disseminate international experience on urban geology and, in particular, encourage joint meetings between geoscientists and urban planners and managers in order to improve awareness of the significance of geological issues for their work.

Activities

Current programmes: website maintenance; prepare capacity building materials on urban geology for use in developing countries linked to dissemination workshops (work currently in progress in Zambia and Malaysia to be completed in 2004); prepare a book on practice and principles of urban geology. Organizes international workshops.
