Aims

Encourage and further the study of game fish angling, game fish species and habitat requirements of such species; analyse the pressure of sports fishing and commercial fishing on game fish species; ensure adequate representation for sport fisherman at all meetings where the future of the game fish population is being determined; develop and support game fish tagging programmes and other scientific data-collection efforts; formulate and support fair, uniform, and ethical international angling rules; accumulate and maintain a worldwide history of game fishing for the use and benefit of the public.

Activities

Disseminates information and knowledge of scientific studies of commercial and game fish to members and the general public. Supports scientific tagging and other data collection programmes. Compiles and maintains world game fish records. Formulates, updates and publishes international angling regulations and advises on fishery legislation. Assists and participates in domestic and international game fish seminars and symposia. Sponsors annual IGFA fishing contest and annual marine recreational fisheries symposia. Maintains international library of fishing books, periodicals, photographs, films, plates, etchings and videos.
