History

by resolution 47/188 of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN). Also referred to in English as Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee for the Elaboration of an International Convention to Combat Desertification in those Countries Experiencing Serious Drought and/or Desertification and in French as Comité intergouvernemental de négociation de lutte contre la désertification. United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) was signed on 18 June 1994 and entered into force on 26 Dec 1996. The Committee ceased to exist at first session of the Conference of the Parties, 1997, Rome (Italy).
