On 8 Nov 1991, took over activities of H-XD9714 - European Association of Railway Equipment Manufacturers, H-XD0599 - European Builders of Diesel Engine and Electric Locomotives and H-XD1335 - Association internationale des constructeurs de matériel roulant (AICMR), their members becoming direct members of UNIFE.
Promote rail transport through dialogue with EU institutions and all important stakeholders; lobby for rail issues by leading initiatives with national rail supply industry associations; deliver railway interoperability and standardization for improved LCC and RAMS; ensure European rail supply industry leadership through joint research and innovation; convince the public that rail transport is the favourable solution for the 21st century challenges of increased mobility, economic growth and environmental protection by other transport modes on innovative materials and production methods.
