History

1985, by WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO). Also referred to as Regional Centre for Environmental Health Activities -- Centre régional pour les activités d'hygiène de l'environnement.

Aims

Provide information, programmatic support, advisory consultations and technical services to Member States to heighten the leadership role of the public health sector in regulating, surveillance and management of environmental risks.

Activities

Areas covered: (A) Human Resources Development: convenes workshops, short training courses, seminars and conferences at national (85), intercountry (4) and regional levels; assists development of those national institutions and centres involved in training in environmental health fields. (B) Research and Technical Advice: provides short-term consultants to advise and strengthen national environmental health institutions; assists identification and preparation of research proposals in appropriate fields. (C) Information Exchange: provides access to CEHANET's technical information obtained from the Region and elsewhere; promotes concept of Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries (TCDC). Documentation Unit; Demonstration.
