The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1 Jan 1997, as a Combined Task Force (CTF) with an initial mandate of 6 months reviewed twice a year (June and December) by the Turkish Government. Replaces the American-British-French multilateral force charged with the allied Operation Provide Comfort to provide assistance and protection to Kurds from Iraq, instituted in July 1991 after the Gulf War and which officially ceased to exist 31 Dec 1996. Part of United States European Command (EUCOM). Headquarters at Incirlik Air Base (Turkey). Mandate ended 17 Mar 2004.

Aims

Enforce the United Nations mandated no-fly zone above the 36th parallel in Iraq; monitor Iraqi compliance with UN Security Council directives.
