Founded within the framework of U-XF0497 - Asia-Pacific Information Network in Social Sciences (APINESS), in accordance with the recommendation of Regional Conference of the National Commission for UNESCO. Statutes approved at 1st Conference, 1975, Teheran (Iran Islamic Rep); most recently amended at 14th Conference, Nov 2001, Hanoi (Vietnam).
Encourage development of social sciences in Asia and the Pacific, with due regard to their national and cultural traditions, and promote research, teaching, training and dissemination of knowledge in the field; identify major areas of national, regional and international development efforts in order to organize cross-national research.
