The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

as part of the 'Third action programme on equal opportunities for women and men' implemented by European Commission (EC); subsequently came within ADAPT and Employment and the Development of Human Resources 1994-1999 initiatives, when referred to as Employment-Now. Together with HORIZON, 'INTEGRA' - replacing INCLUSION - and YOUTHSTART, activities now part of 'Employment Community Initiative 2000-2006' No longer exists.

Aims

Improve equal opportunities for women with regard to employment, mainly through measures concerning training and access to high-tech and management jobs; promote better education for women; upgrade their skills; help them to re-enter the job market; provide financial assistance for guidance, advice, training and job opportunities for long-term unemployed women and young women without qualifications; support complementary measures, including improvement of day-care facilities for children.

Activities

Organizes: cooperation and training and development networks; guidance and pre-training services and local services to assist with establishment of small firms and cooperatives; links between vocational training bodies and business; personalized and flexible training, initial and continuing training (particularly in small firms and exposed sectors); training in business management; innovative assessment to recognize and integrate all women's activities into their professional careers; cooperation and networking among local employment initiatives for women; creation of self-employed activities, small firms and cooperatives and financial instruments to support them; data bases, studies, circulation of good results; special programmes for particular Structural Funds objectives.
