Founded 10-12 Nov 1987, Izmir (Turkey), under the name Inter-Islamic Network on Oceanography (INOC), as an independent, autonomous and self-governing institution under the umbrella of E-XE5993 - OIC Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) of C-XC4129 - Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Originally planned as Islamic Institute of Oceanography.
Cooperate in research areas of common interest with a view to mutual assistance in building capability in the field of oceanography; exchange information; initiate joint research activities; develop projects; assist in training of students and quality manpower.
