The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1945, Mexico City (Mexico), by the Inter-American Conference on the Problems of War and Peace, to supersede H-XH1079 - Inter-American Financial and Economic Advisory Committee. In accordance with the provisions of the Charter of D-XD3030 - OAS, signed in 1948, the Inter-American Economic and Social Council became one of the permanent organs through which OAS accomplished its purposes. It was directly responsible to the General Assembly of the Organization. Replaced by E-XE2432 - Inter-American Council for Integral Development, set up 29 Jan 1996, following ratification of the 'Protocol of Managua'.

Aims

In accordance with provisions of Article 93 of the OAS Charter: promote cooperation among American countries in order to attain accelerated economic and social development.

Structure

Council meets regularly once a year and consists of one principal representative of highest rank of each member state, usually Minister of Finance or Development, especially appointed by the representative government. Committees (2): U-XE1062 - Permanent Executive Committee of the Inter-American Economic and Social Council; H-XE1919 - OAS Special Committee on Trade (SCT), replacing U-XE0532 - Special Committee for Consultation and Negotiation (CECON), promoting trade liberalization and economic integration among countries of the Western hemisphere. Instrumental in setting up: U-XD4497 - Centro Interamericano de Estudios Tributarios (CIET) - superseded by U-XE2566 - Inter-American Center of Taxation and Financial Administration; H-XF1104 - Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor.
