The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1994, following work of Comité de liaison ferroviaire, set up by Union of European Railway Industries, International Union of Public Transport and International Union of Railways. Registered in accordance with Belgian law. Has been referred to in English as European Association for Questions of Rail Interoperability. Activities taken over by European Union Agency for Railways, 7 Sep 2006.

Aims

Create technical specifications for interoperability in the European high-speed and conventional rail network, including infrastructure, compatible rolling stock, overall consistency and rationalized costs; foster cooperation among all the railway sector players.

Activities

Functions as the joint representative body requested by European Commission Directive 2001/16 to draft technical specifications (TSIs). European experts, appointed by members and seconded from their companies, work through about 8 working groups to develop TSIs derived from EC statutory provisions.
