Established in the framework of the A-XA3375 - United Nations (UN) Secretariat, pursuant to resolution 40/151 G adopted by consensus, 16 Dec 1985, at 40th session of the United Nations General Assembly and, pursuent to resolution SHG/Res 138 XXI adopted at the 21st ordinary session of the Head of State and Government of H-XD3027 - Organization of African Unity (OAU), held in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) 16-20 Jul 1985. Officially inaugurated on 24 Oct 1986.
Provide substantive support for initiatives and other efforts of Member States of the African region towards realization of measures of peace, arms limitation and disarmament.
