focusing on measurement, analysis, treatment and recycling of environmental pollutants cover: emitted, discharged and accumulated industrial wastes; sewage and urban wastes; oil release and tanker waste; noise, thermal and light intensity levels; water eutrophication; water acidity; wet-lands and soil degradation; ground water contamination. Members are involved in projects and programmes, and in some cases act as consultants for operating agencies for specific environmental issues, including: measurement of depth and fixing postillions of submerged features such as reefs, rocks, banks, wrecks, etc; carrying out of hydrographic and environmental surveys comprising complex monitoring (eg, tidal rise and fall, mean sea level determination), as well as mathematical and statistical elaboration (including application of numerical models); carrying out of marine meteorological surveys and atmospheric mathematical model application; preparing oceanographic and limnological environmental reports; preparing of operative studies and applied plants for management of coastal zone areas. Projects to date: physical oceanographic and marine meteorological studies and surveys in the Mediterranean sea, Arabian Gulf and Red Sea; evaluation of the South-Eastern Mediterranean productivity; application of numerical hydrodynamics and ecosystem 3D models on the Mediterranean coastal area off Egypt; forecasting information system of the Mediterranean ecosystem and meteorology; management of Lake Manzalah ecosystem and fisheries; Alexandria sewage discharge and its impact on marine and coastal zones; geophysical surveys for pipe-lines extension Western Petroleum Company. Organizes: international conferences; regional and other training courses.
