History
1928, The Hague (Netherlands). Statutes modified 1949, on reconstruction as a federation; 1960; 1972, when name changed from International Catholic Film Office -- Office catholique international du cinéma -- Oficina Católica International del Cine into International Catholic Film Organization -- Organisation catholique internationale du cinéma -- Organización Católica Internacional del Cine. Current Statutes, By-Laws and name adopted by General Assembly, Nov 1980, Manila (Philippines), and confirmed by Juridical Committee, Apr 1982, Brussels (Belgium). Registered by Belgian Royal Decree, 14 May 1952. Following decision of World Congress, Aug 1998, Montréal (Canada), merged with H-XB1450 - Unda, International Catholic Association for Radio and Television, effective from World Congress 2001, Rome (Italy), to form B-XB0012 - World Catholic Association for Communication (SIGNIS).
Aims
Collaborate in developing cinema, audiovisuals, artistic expression and the media for culture, entertainment and communication among people; contribute to the human and spiritual progress of professionals working in the cinema and audiovisuals and of the public of these media; encourage the making, distribution and use of films and audiovisuals which contribute to the promotion of man and to knowledge of the Gospel message.
