History
Founded 1984, as Working Group Indigenous Peoples (WIP) -- Grupo de Trabajo para los Pueblos Indigenas -- Werkgroep Inheemse Volken, on the merging of Workgroup for South American Indians -- Werkgroep Indianen Zuid-Amerika (WIZA), set up 1969, and Workgroup Indian Project (WIP), formed 1978. The latter organization organized 4th Russell Tribunal on the Rights of the Indians of the Americas, Nov 1980. Officially commenced activities in 1984. Current title adopted 1993.
Aims
Support human rights of indigenous peoples at national and international level by actions directed to governments and information; inform the public of their problems.
