The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

1983, Tiwanaku (Bolivia), as South American Indian Information Center. Name changed, 1985, to South and Central American Indian Information Center and, 1988, to South and Meso American Indian Information Center. No longer exists.

Aims

Promote peace, social justice and full participation of Indian people in the decision-making processes that affect their lives; facilitate cultural and spiritual exchange among indigenous people.

Activities

Provides information on the problems of Indian people of South and Meso America; issues Emergency Action Alerts when necessary; organizes a Women's Project which is actively engaged in formation of indigenous women's leadership in the region; provides technical assistance to Indian organizations and communities; brings leaders from South and Meso American Indian communities to meet with native people in USA and Canada.
