1968-05 Cairo Egypt

History

May 1968, Cairo (Egypt), under the auspices of D-XD2903 - League of Arab States (LAS), as Industrial Development Centre for the Arab States (IDCAS) -- Centre de développement industrial des Etats arabes. Listed name adopted when became an independent specialized Arab agency in accordance with Resolution No 472 of the Economic Council of the Arab League, 10 Sep 1978. Provisions of Agreement approved at Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of IDCAS, held at Ministers of Industry level, 14-15 May 1979, Tunisia. Commenced operation 21 Jul 1980, Baghdad (Iraq). Ceased to exist when merged with H-XD7405 - Arab Organization for Mineral Resources (AOMR) and H-XD3874 - Arab Organization for Standardization and Metrology (ASMO) to form D-XD1444 - Arab Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining Organization (AIDSMO).

Aims

Enhance industrialization in the Arab countries, encourage proper utilization of their natural wealth, hasten their progress and development, by: promoting Arab cooperation in the field of industrial and economic planning; carrying out technical and economic feasibility studies; consolidating efforts directed towards raising productivity and improving efficiency of organization in industrial establishments; cooperating with training institutions in the Arab States and with international organizations for setting up industrial training programmes; organizing industrial scientific conferences and seminars to study various aspects of industrial development and provide solutions to problems; promoting industrial information and creating connections with advanced sources of information; offering advisory services in the fields of production, marketing and finance; preparing uniform systems for national income accounts and industrial cost accounting for the Arab countries; attracting emigrant Arab experts and recruiting them for consultancy services in the various fields of industrial and economic development.

Structure

Ministerial Board of Directors (Director General, Deputy Director General). Permanent Secretariat, headed by Secretary General. Council (meets once a year), consisting of representatives of all Member States (Ministers of Industry or their equivalents, or their duly authorized representatives). Divisions: Technical Cooperation; Techno-economic Studies; Industrial Design and Technology; Documentation Publication and Scientific Computation; Productivity and Management Studies, Administrative and General Services.
