The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

Jan 1981, Makkah, as a specialized committee of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), by 3rd Islamic Summit of Kings and Heads of States and Governments. Ceased to exist.

Aims

Ensure follow up of implementation of measures taken within the framework of assistance programmes to the peoples of the Sahel in the form of emergency food aid and priority development projects; explore all means likely to control drought and desertification; take the initiative in this regard and apprise the Conference of Foreign Ministers.

Activities

Programme of assistance in the problem of persistent drought covers 10 Sahel countries - Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Chad, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal (Cape Verde is not an OIC member and does not have a significant Muslim population but is included in the programme as it constitutes an integral part of the African Sahel).
