History

Aug 1988, following initiatives from 1984, as a consortium of national and international economic researchers supported by donors, lateral governments and international organizations.

Aims

Strengthen local capacity for conducting independent, rigorous enquiry into problems pertinent to the management of economies in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Research on: poverty, income distribution and labour market issues; trade, regional integration and sectoral policies; macroeconomic policies, stabilization and growth; finance, resource mobilization and investment. Educational activities, including MA and PhD Programmes, conferences, symposia, seminars, technical workshops and visiting scholar programmes. Research workshops; grants, scholarships and institutional support to public universities.
