Founded 1917, Chicago IL (USA), by Melvin Jones. Initial membership consisted of 25 clubs located in the USA. In subsequent years, clubs were established in Canada (1920), Mexico (1925) and China (1926). Currently there are more than 46,000 clubs and 1.35 million members in over 200 countries and geographic areas. Former name: Lions International; present name adopted 1970. Current full title: International Association of Lions Clubs -- Association internationale des Lions clubs -- Asociación Internacional de los Clubes de Leones -- Internationale Vereinigung der Lions-Club. Statutes amended: 4 Jul 1988; 2 Jul 1988.
