History
Founded when joined with non-Zionist Jewish groups as instrument through which world Jewry could assist in building up the Jewish national home. During the British Mandate in Palestine the Agency had semi-official status, acting as representative of Jewish people in all matters concerning rebuilding of the country. Towards the end of this period the Executive of the Agency became practically identical with the Executive of the World Zionist Organization. Since the emergence of the State of Israel in 1948, the Agency acts on behalf of Jews throughout the world who are concerned for the development of Israel, the immigration of Jews into the country and the unity of the Jewish people. Works in close cooperation with the Government of Israel.
