1959, as Stichting Steun voor Onderontwikkelde Streken (Komitee SOS). Name changed to Steun Ontwikkelings Streken (Stichting SOS). Became SOS Wereldhandel in 1980; Fair Trade Organisatie in 1994. Present name adopted 2006.
Support efforts of the lesser endowed, exploited, handicapped, or otherwise discriminated people who by means of cooperation, production, and trade strive for a better standard of living and fairness in the distribution of income and influence; take initiatives and participate in activities aimed at establishing fair production and trade structures both in developing countries and on the global market.
