Founded as the result of a study commissioned by DG XIII of the E-XE2442 - European Commission (EC) to develop a unified European approach to the use of geographic technologies (GT).
Maximize the use of geographic information (GI) for the benefit of citizens, good governance and commerce in Europe; encourage greater use of GI in Europe; raise awareness of the value of and its associated technologies; work towards development of strong national associations in all European countries; facilitate development of a European Spatial Data Infrastructure; represent European interests in the Global Spatial Data infrastructure.
