History
Founded on merger of the former H-XA3491 - World Confederation of Organizations of the Teaching Profession (WCOTP) and the former H-XC1919 - International Federation of Free Teachers' Unions (IFFTU).
Also incorporates activities of 3 former teachers' organizations:
- H-XD1999 - Fédération internationale des professeurs de l'enseignement secondaire officiel (FIPESO), which agreed to cease operations on setting up of EI.
- H-XC2021 - International Federation of Teachers' Associations (IFTA), which was dissolved on 1 Jul 1995 following gradual take-over of its activities.
- H-XD3492 - World Confederation of Teachers (WCT), which was dissolved Mar 2007.
Constitution and By-Laws last revised in 2011.
Aims
Further the cause of organizations of teachers and other education employees; promote status, interests and welfare of members and defend their trade union and professional rights; promote peace, democracy, social justice, equality and application of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights through development of education and collective strength of teachers and education employees; seek and maintain recognition of trade union rights of workers in general and of teachers and education employees in particular.
