History
1 Sep 1974, as Caribbean Tourism Research Centre. Ceased to exist 1989, when merged with H-XD0215 - Caribbean Tourism Association (CTA) to form D-XD1294 - Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO).
Aims
Collect, collate and research data on tourism; create processes and systems for disseminating and sharing tourist information; encourage improvement of facilitation services; provide advice, technical assistance, training and consultancy services; maximize contribution of tourism to economic independence of member states and the Caribbean region in general; through tourism, achieve employment opportunities, more equitable distribution of income and other benefits for the peoples of the Caribbean; ensure coordination of research and planning, and efficient allocation of local, regional and international resources in tourism development; preserve and promote indigenous cultural expression, specifically visual arts and handiwork, drama, dance, music and creative writing; encourage recognition of tourism as a mode of education in Caribbean life and study of tourism within Caribbean academic curricula; use tourism as a means of greater integration in the Caribbean region.
