1978, Athens (Greece) and Rome (Italy) (simultaneously), at 17 General Assembly of H-XA1752 - International Council for Science (ICSU), as Inter-Union Commission of ICSU. Secretariat established May 1982. Transformed into Scientific Committee at 23rd ICSU General Assembly, Sofia (Bulgaria), Oct 1990. Suspended since 1993, at 24th ICSU General Assembly.
Aims
Identify areas of research in which scientists from developed and developing countries can cooperate and provide a coordinating mechanism to focus attention on the critical research problems of developing countries in agriculture, forestry, and aquaculture.
