Founded

1992

History

Established by 'Agreement on cooperation in joint management, use and protection of interstate water sources', signed by 5 Ministers of Water Resources of Central Asian States. First included as a subdivision of H-XD5439 - Interstate Council of the Central Asia States on the Aral Sea Basin Problems and subsequently of F-XF4413 - International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS), 23 Mar 1993.

Aims

Be responsible for cooperation among Aral Sea Basin countries in joint management of transboundary water resources - surface, ground and return water; direct water resources management and development and maintenance of sustainable natural and hydro ecological processes on transboundary water resources; help to avoid conflict related to water; help control water usage; consider environmental programmes related to the Aral Sea drying and water sources exhaustion and to the establishment of annual volumes of inflow to river deltas and the Aral Sea.
