History

1969, San Juan (Puerto Rico), as Association of Caribbean University and Research Institute Libraries, at a conference under the auspices of Association of Caribbean Universities and Research Institutes (UNICA). Subsequently referred to as Association of Caribbean and Research Libraries. Present title adopted 1976. Most recent constitution adopted 1992.

Aims

Facilitate development and use of libraries, archives and information services, and identification, collection and preservation of information resources in support of all intellectual and educational endeavours in the Caribbean area; strengthen archival, library and information professions in the region.

Activities

Organizes regional projects to improve access to information produced or published in the region, including: microfilming archives and newspapers; increasing availability of documents and publications through collection and circulation of books, journals, reports, etc, by various regional institutions; indexing regional social science journals; meetings for special interest groups to review and plan, and to identify common problems. Holds annual Conferences and mid-year Executive Council Meetings.
