Key Focus Areas:
2025 promises a busy and exciting year for association meetings in Finland
Finland consistently ranks among the world's leading congress destinations, solidifying its position as a top choice for international associations.
Amid intensifying competition among MICE host cities to attract large events, 2024 saw Busan take bold steps that led to impressive results, proving its potential as a prime MICE destination. The efforts made by Busan in 2024 in attracting major international conferences, promoting ESG management, enhancing networking, and strengthening city identity are outlined below.
The 4th World Congress of Environmental History, WCEH2024, was held in Oulu in August 2024.
The General Assembly of the International Aviation Association (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale, FAI) will be held in Vantaa, Finland in October 2025.
The General Assembly was last held in Finland in 1969. Approximately 150 participants are expected to attend the meeting.
The MICE industry is one of the many contributors to environmental degradation. The air and ground travel that bring visitors to MICE events around the world contributes to carbon emissions, while the waste generated at MICE events is another major pollution factor. Recognizing these issues and understanding the need for sustainability, Busan and the BTO CVB are striving to operate MICE events in ways that align with ESG management principles.
In 2024, the Busan Convention Bureau (BTO CVB) actively promoted Busan as a premier MICE destination at several major industry events, including ITB Asia 2024 in Singapore, IBTM World 2024 in Barcelona, Spain, and the “2024 Meet Busan in Thailand” event in Bangkok.
From October 22 to 25, the 27th IAVE World Volunteer Conference was held in Busan under the theme “People Power: Creating a Sustainable Future through Volunteering.” The event brought together volunteers from 80 countries to highlight the importance and value of volunteer work. Divided into multiple sessions, the conference addressed key social issues such as climate change, education, and inequality, with participants sharing their experiences.
