Welcome to the UIA, a proponent of global civil society since the beginning of the 20th century. As an independent, not-for-profit research institution with a long-standing tradition, we strive to promote international collaboration, peace, security and sustainability through our documentation and networking activities.

The Union of International Associations (UIA) has been documenting global civil society since 1907. Today, we are the oldest and most comprehensive independent source of reliable information on international associations and a unique repository for current and historical data on association life and work. The UIA’s Global Civil Society database is continuously updated and expanded and is available through various publications. It is also customizable and can be tailored to individual needs.

In addition to serving as a clearinghouse for international associations and promoting public awareness of their work, the UIA enables networking among civil society actors and communication between association and industry bodies. As a not-for-profit institution, we champion this work with the vision of a universal order based on the principles of human dignity, solidarity of peoples and freedom of association and communication.
